A Must-Read: Bite by Bite by Aimee Nezhukumatathil
In Bite by Bite: Nourishments and Jamborees, poet, nature writer and NYT bestselling author Aimee Nezhukumatathil shares personal stories inspired by flavors, ingredients, and meals that have shaped her life. This beautifully written collection of essays explores the deep connections between food, memory, and identity. From childhood delights to cultural traditions, each essay is a celebration of food’s power to nourish both body and soul. I was lucky to receive this book as a Christmas gift from my sister-in-law, and I’m really enjoying it. If you love food, this one belongs on your reading list!
A Podcast Worth Tuning Into: Wiser Than Me with Ina Garten In Wiser Than Me, Julia Louis-Dreyfus sits down with incredible women to learn from their experiences, and her conversation with Ina Garten is a must-listen. Ina shares insights on everything from her unexpected career path—from nuclear policy analyst to beloved cookbook author—to her approach to cooking, life, and handling tricky social dynamics. It’s a warm, funny, and inspiring episode that food lovers (and wisdom seekers) will truly enjoy. I loved hearing Ina’s take on aging and confidence in the kitchen. Give it a listen—you won’t regret it.
A Favorite from Our Kitchen: Mediterranean Chickpea Salad (with a Twist!) This Mediterranean Chickpea Salad by Jessica Hylton has become a staple in our home—fresh, flavorful, and incredibly versatile. Whether for everyday meals or special occasions, it pairs beautifully with just about anything, especially lasagna or pizza. My wife Marguerita loves making this dish, but she adds her own special touch: a dash of Aleppo pepper to the dressing, giving it a subtle warmth and depth of flavor. Despite her demanding career in law firm business development, she always finds time to enjoy cooking, and this is one recipe we keep coming back to!
A Brunch Experience to Remember: Indian Accent Tucked into our Midtown neighborhood, Indian Accentreimagines Indian cuisine with creativity and artistry. When they first introduced their weekend brunch, we couldn’t resist—and it was an unforgettable experience. The menu blends traditional flavors with modern techniques, featuring dishes like Parsi salli par eedu and sweet pickle pork ribs, all beautifully presented. The elegant yet welcoming atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for both casual brunches and special occasions. If you’re looking to indulge in inventive Indian flavors, this is a must-visit. We loved it, and we’re sure you will too!
A Series to Savor: Like Water for Chocolate (HBO, 2024) A beloved classic returns with a fresh twist! HBO’s new Like Water for Chocolate series reimagines the iconic 1992 film, bringing Laura Esquivel’s magical tale of love, family, and food to a new generation. Set during the Mexican Revolution, the story follows Tita, whose emotions infuse every dish she prepares, creating moments of transcendence, passion, and heartbreak. Executive produced by Salma Hayek Pinault, this visually stunning and emotionally rich adaptation is both nostalgic and refreshing. If you love romance, food, and a touch of magic, this series is a must-watch!
